Student answer (Band 5.0)
Some people argue that ancient structures, such as town halls and museums, ought to be renovated, although this can be expensive. However, others believe that legal authorities should exchange them with latest, trendy buildings. In my opinion, both the former and latter have their own merits, and must be done carefully. rhis essay will discuss both perspectives in detail along with my opinion and provide a logical conclusion.
The primary reason why restoration of old building is a appropriate choice is that it helps to preserve the heritage and history of perticular area. If old buildings are remain intact, it contributes to preserve the culture and heridity of that place. For instance, youngsters can visit those places and learn our culture which enhance their knowledge of their ancesters, who they live their life and what challanges they had to face.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You introduce the topic and give a relevant reason for restoring historic buildings: preserving local heritage and helping young people learn about the past. However, the response addresses the task only minimally. The view in favour of replacing old buildings is mentioned in the introduction but never explained, and your own position is unclear because you say both options have merits without stating when or why you would choose either. The example about young visitors is relevant, but its explanation is brief and does not develop the argument. The response also falls short of the required 250 words. To improve, discuss both views in separate, developed points and state a clear opinion supported by reasons and examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic overall shape: an introductory paragraph followed by a paragraph explaining one reason to restore old buildings. Linking expressions such as “However,” “The primary reason,” and “For instance” help signal contrast, explanation, and example. However, the essay stops before developing the second viewpoint or reaching a conclusion, so there is no complete progression from the discussion to a final position. Some links are also awkward or repetitive, particularly “helps to preserve” followed by “contributes to preserve.” Build a clear sequence with one paragraph for each view, then a concluding paragraph. Use referencing and linking phrases to show how each example supports the point, rather than relying mainly on basic signposts.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “renovated,” “preserve,” “heritage,” and “culture,” and the main meaning is generally understandable. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “ancient structures” and “legal authorities.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural: authorities would “replace” buildings rather than “exchange them,” and “latest, trendy buildings” does not express the idea of modern buildings appropriately. Spelling errors such as “perticular,” “heridity,” “ancesters,” and “challanges” are noticeable. Aim for accurate, natural combinations such as “restore historic buildings,” “replace them with modern facilities,” and “preserve local heritage,” and proofread spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “If old buildings are remain intact” and a relative clause in “ancesters, who they live their life.” These attempts show some range, but errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and clause construction are frequent enough to make parts of the response awkward. For example, write “If old buildings remain intact,” not “are remain intact,” and “the restoration of an old building is an appropriate choice,” rather than “restoration of old building is a appropriate choice.” The final relative clause is difficult to follow and should be recast, for example: “what challenges their ancestors faced.” Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and verb, and use complex structures only when their grammar is secure.
