Student answer (Band 5.5)

People have their own opinions about the ancient buildings and the arts associated with in it. Some of them are in favour that such kind of places should be protected without bothering about the money while others think that they should be utilized in some other manner as they are not useful according to needs of the people. This essay will throw light on the believes of the both kind of people and my own personal views regarding it.

The main reason to conserve such buildings is they tell us about the history of the nation of past time when the person was not even took birth. They are one of the important way to connect them with their ancestors and their mindset. For example, if there is a library in India made by the time of Britishers, when people went inside they would came across the book written during that time which they can read and enhance their knowledge. Moreover, these buildings also attract the tourists to come and see something that they have never seen which ultimately helps to improve the economy of the nation.

The people who disagree with the presence of such old buildings think that with the advancement of everything, they already lost their interest towards it and such buildings are waste for them. If the government will open any valuable building then it would be better for them. For example if the government decide to open the new company then people will have job opportunity.

According to me, these building are really important for us as they remind as the time how our ancestors mindset was at time and motivate us to learn from their mistakes. Although with the advancement of technology we are handy with everything but still one cannot compare theoretical and practical experience.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You discuss both positions and state your preference for preserving historic buildings, so the response addresses the main parts of the prompt. The preservation argument has relevant support: you explain their historical value and mention tourism and the economy. However, the opposing view is less fully developed. The example of opening a new company introduces employment, but it does not clearly explain why replacing a town hall or gallery is preferable, or how modern buildings meet public needs. Your opinion is present, but the final point about theoretical and practical experience is not clearly connected to restoration. Develop each side with a direct explanation and a specific example, then make your conclusion explicitly compare the costs and benefits.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph for each view, and a concluding opinion. This makes the discussion easy to follow, and signposts such as “Moreover,” “For example,” and “According to me” help show the direction of ideas. The progression is not always smooth, however. The opening refers to “the arts associated with” old buildings, which is not developed later, and the example of a new company feels disconnected from the issue of replacing historic buildings. Some references, including “they” and “it,” are also unclear. To strengthen the flow, keep each paragraph focused on one argument and use explicit links to show how each example supports that argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “conserve,” “ancestors,” “tourists,” and “economy,” and you attempt to express abstract ideas about history and public benefit. However, the range is limited and several phrases are unnatural or imprecise, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “the believes of the both kind of people,” “they already lost their interest towards it,” and “we are handy with everything.” Some word forms are also inaccurate, such as “believes” where a noun is needed. Aim for precise collocations and avoid repeating broad terms such as “people” and “buildings.” Learning phrases such as “preserve cultural heritage” and “provide employment” would help express the arguments more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “if the government will open any valuable building,” and you use linking clauses to explain reasons. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to understand. For example, “when the person was not even took birth” has an incorrect verb form, while “these building are” has a number-agreement error. The sentence beginning “For example, if there is a library…” also shifts awkwardly between present and past forms. Review subject–verb agreement, articles, and consistent verb forms, and build complex sentences around one clear main clause. Careful proofreading would help you catch these recurring patterns.
