Student answer (Band 6.0)
In today's rapidly changing world, preservation and demolition of ancient buildings have been a topic of considerable debate. While some believe that , town halls and galleries that have been created long ago should be reconstructed, while others argue that new buildings should be created in place of the existing old ones.In this essay, i will be discussing both the views before explaining why i believe that buildings that have been existing since decades should be maintained.
One of the main reason why ancient buildings like town halls and art galleries should be maintained is that it teaches the people the historical emphasis that these buildings hold in respect to the city or country they reside in.This is because, the architecture of these buildings disclose what medevial period these buildings belong to, along with that people also get to witness varied craftsmanship that has been applied on the buildings from craftsmen who were living at that place during that time period. Moreover, the art galleries store paintings that were captured in the ancient time period showcasing how people used to live during that time such as what they used to eat, what they used to wear, what does that city used to look during that time etc.For instance, many schools take out their student on excursion trips to art galleries as an educational trip to educate them on historical events.
However, as we are witnessing rapid growth in technology and infrastructure sector, the restoration of medevial buildings keeps the innovation on a back foot. This is because, the newer buildings provide a more futuristic design and facilities that will not only increase that area reputation but also provide public convinience. For instance, government has recently redeveloped few railway stations in the country based on the latest design and providing world class amenities like resting areas, mulicusine resturants, hassle free connectivity among platforms through elevators focusing on public benefits.
To conclude, although new buildings do provide btter facilities , older buildings preserve history.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear preference for preserving older buildings, supported by relevant points about historical learning and architectural heritage. The school-trip example helps illustrate the educational value of galleries. You also explain the case for modern buildings through improved facilities, using redeveloped railway stations as an example. However, the two views are not developed equally: the benefits of preservation receive more explanation, while the argument for replacement focuses mainly on amenities and reputation. The conclusion restates your preference but does not explain how you weigh preservation against the cost or practical need for modern facilities. Develop that comparison and make your final reasoning more explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. The progression from historical value to modern convenience is easy to follow, and examples generally appear alongside the points they support. Cohesion is sometimes mechanical, however, with repeated openings such as “This is because” and “For instance.” Some sentences also carry several ideas at once, particularly the discussion of what gallery paintings reveal, which makes the progression less smooth. The introduction repeats “while” and contains a confusing comma after “believe that,” while the conclusion is very brief. Use a wider range of linking methods, make references between ideas clearer, and give the conclusion a fuller synthesis of the two positions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “preservation,” “craftsmanship,” “futuristic design,” and “amenities,” and the meaning is generally understandable. There are also some inaccurate or unnatural choices that limit precision: “historical emphasis” does not clearly express the historical significance of buildings, and “keeps the innovation on a back foot” is an awkward way to describe a possible cost of restoration. Spelling errors such as “medevial,” “convinience,” and “resturants,” along with “mulicusine,” are noticeable. Some wording is repetitive, especially “during that time period.” Aim for accurate collocations and check spelling carefully; this will make your vocabulary more natural and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “while,” “because,” and “although,” and the main ideas remain understandable. Some grammatical errors occur, particularly with agreement and sentence construction. For example, “One of the main reason … is that it teaches” should use a plural noun after “one of the,” and “the architecture … disclose” needs a verb agreeing with the singular subject. The opening sentence also joins clauses awkwardly, and punctuation spacing and capitalization are inconsistent, as in “world, preservation” and “i.” Several long sentences would be clearer if divided or carefully structured. Review subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
