Student answer (Band 6.0)
There are some people who think that the restoration of old monuments, such as art galleries or town halls, is crucial, as it is a part of the country's history, even though it takes lots of money. Others argue that old buildings should be replaced with modern architecture by the government. I will discuss both points and give my opinion in the upcoming paragraph with a suitable example.
To begin with, some folks believe that historical or Ancient buildings or monuments should be preserved and restored by spending funds on them. As these buildings represent a nation's history and ancient culture, they should be preserved. For example: If a monument like Taj Mahal is preserved and taken proper care of by the government, people from all over the world will visit to see that attraction that will lead to rise in Country's economy.
On the other hand, some individuals believe that historic buildings that are too old should not be restored and replaced by new buildings. They think that preserving old monuments is a waste of money. Instead of restoring them, Authorities should build new buildings there that can be helpful in numerous ways. For example: If the government replaces the Ancient Museum with the IT building, it will lead to an increase in job opportunities and will decline the unemployment rate in the country, also helps in dealing poverty as well.
From my perspective, I agree with the latter statement. I think that old or historic buildings should be removed and replaced by new buildings so that it will increase job opportunities as well as help in the economic growth of the nation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You discuss both positions and state a clear preference for replacing old buildings, so the main parts of the task are present. The preservation argument is supported with the Taj Mahal example and a link to tourism and the economy. However, the two sides are not developed equally: the case for replacement relies mainly on job creation and poverty reduction, without explaining why these benefits outweigh the loss of heritage or whether suitable sites are available. Your opening also promises an example and opinion, but the opinion is only stated briefly in the final paragraph. Develop the reasoning behind your position and acknowledge a possible drawback to make the discussion more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a concluding opinion. Phrases such as “To begin with” and “On the other hand” make the shift between arguments easy to follow, and the examples are placed with the relevant points. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some of the stronger control associated with a higher level. However, linking can feel formulaic, and some connections within sentences are unclear, particularly the final sentence of the second example, where several outcomes are joined together. Use a wider range of natural transitions and make cause-and-effect links explicit to improve progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “restoration,” “preserved,” “historical,” and “job opportunities.” There are also attempts at more formal wording, such as “economic growth” and “unemployment rate.” However, the range is limited by repetition of “old buildings,” “monuments,” and “government,” while some choices are awkward or imprecise: “lots of money,” “Ancient Museum,” and “will lead to rise in Country's economy.” Capitalisation is also inconsistent. These issues do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Aim for more varied terms and accurate collocations, especially when describing heritage, public spending, and economic effects.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple sentences and more complex forms, including a reason clause (“as it is a part of the country's history”) and conditional examples beginning with “If.” Most ideas remain understandable, which is consistent with this level of grammatical control. Some errors occur in sentence construction and punctuation, however. In “that will lead to rise,” the article is missing, and “also helps in dealing poverty as well” lacks a clear grammatical connection to the preceding clause. The opening sentence is also long and somewhat awkwardly joined. Practise building complex sentences with clear clause boundaries, accurate articles, and parallel structures; this will make your reasoning easier to follow.
