Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some individuals believe that the old stablishements, such as town halls, museum should be rebuild, even though this can be pricy.Others say that the authorities should replace them with new stablishments. I think we should go first to the engineers, architects ,They should first inspect the old buildings if it is good for minor repair or restored,or something it its not appropriate to be re stored beacuase it is old and need to demolished, they know what plan to do, For me if the old buildings is good enough to restore why not it is cost less rather than new buildings,But engineer says it is not good to be restore demolshed is the best solution to avoid accidents in the future,In Metro Manila many old building was restored and they used them for museum and library. Others argue that governments should replace a new building but i contradicts it,Aside to build a new one the governments should focus in Educations, transportation many more it is essential to have better future of the students rather than new buildings.government focus poverty to give the people worked and stable income.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You address both sides of the discussion and state a personal view: you favour restoring buildings when engineers consider them suitable, while accepting demolition if they are unsafe. The example of old buildings in Metro Manila being used as museums and libraries is relevant. However, the two views are not developed evenly: the case for replacing buildings is mainly linked to spending on education, transport and poverty, rather than explaining the benefits of modern buildings. Your position also shifts between supporting restoration and opposing replacement without fully clarifying the conditions. The response is below the required 250 words, so the ideas and example remain underdeveloped. Explain each side with a reason and a specific supporting example, then state your position consistently.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: you introduce the issue, give your view, and then discuss the argument for new buildings. Linking expressions such as “For me” and “Others argue” help signal changes in viewpoint. However, the ideas do not progress clearly within paragraphs, and several points are joined into long, difficult-to-follow sentences. For example, the discussion of engineers, repairs and demolition runs together, while the final paragraph moves abruptly from new buildings to education, transport and poverty. Use separate paragraphs for the two views and your opinion, and connect each reason to its explanation. Clear sentence boundaries and more precise referencing would make the argument easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “restore,” “demolished,” “engineers,” “museum” and “transportation,” so the reader can generally understand the subject. There is also an attempt to express evaluation through phrases such as “avoid accidents in the future.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings make the message less clear, including “stablishements,” “pricy,” “stablishments” and “worked and stable income.” Some phrases are repeated, particularly “new buildings” and “old buildings.” Aim for accurate topic vocabulary and natural collocations, such as “historic buildings,” “renovate,” “replace with modern facilities” and “provide stable employment.” Proofreading spelling and choosing precise phrases will improve clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt to combine ideas using clauses and conditionals, for example, “if the old buildings is good enough to restore” and “if it is good for minor repair.” These attempts show some range, but sentence structures are often faulty, and errors frequently make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Examples include “the old buildings is,” “many old building was restored,” and “the governments should replace a new building.” Several sentences also run together without clear punctuation, especially the passage beginning “I think we should go first to the engineers.” Practise subject–verb agreement, articles and plural forms, and use shorter, complete sentences before adding subordinate clauses. Check that each sentence has a clear subject and verb.
