Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some individuals believe that old buildings including town halls and art galleries must be restored, despite the fact of that it can be expensive. Some people argue that replacement could be taken by the government.

On the one side, some people think that old halls and art galleries should be preserved. It can be costly, but they know that funding can be provided by foreigner people and also by local people. local community and society can contribute if any need of money. For instance, youngsters likes to explore cultural and traditions things. Because it can remind of them about their past experiences.

On the other side, some individuals believe that if they spend enough on old buildings, but they cannot preserved them in floods and earthquakes. Teenagers think that we should use new technology in construction of new buildings. In this way everyone likes their modern facilities, infrastructure and many other digital things. For example, foreigners will also arrive from countries, they can also provide donations for preservation. If government and big companies work together, they can take many steps and also provide enough money for new buildings.

In my opinion, I believe that preservation is more important than replacement with new buildings. In modern days, everyone likes old materials, cultural heritages. In addition, I think it not costly.

In conclusion, some buildings can be preserved by their maintenace rather than replacement. In this way, money can be saving as well as it can be beneficial for future generation with preserving it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both views and state a clear preference for preservation in “preservation is more important than replacement.” The response also gives relevant points about cultural heritage, modern facilities, and possible funding. However, the discussion is only partially developed: the case for restoring buildings is linked to cultural interest, but the explanation is brief, while the argument for replacement shifts between disaster resistance, technology, and donations without clearly showing why new buildings are preferable. The example about foreigners donating is also more relevant to funding preservation than to replacement. To strengthen the response, explain each side’s main benefit with a specific, logically connected example, and make your own reasons for preferring preservation more convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two paragraphs presenting opposing views, your opinion, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “On the one side,” “On the other side,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the broad organisation. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven, and some connections are unclear. For example, the point that old buildings cannot be preserved in floods and earthquakes is followed by a claim about teenagers and technology, without explaining the relationship. The donation example then seems to support preservation rather than the paragraph’s case for replacement. Use linking phrases to show cause and contrast, and organise each body paragraph around one clear argument with supporting explanation.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “cultural heritages,” “modern facilities,” “infrastructure,” and “preservation,” which helps communicate the subject. There is also an attempt to use less common terms such as “foreigners” and “digital.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unclear, such as “foreigner people,” “cultural and traditions things,” and “old materials.” Repetition of “old buildings,” “new buildings,” and “people” also limits precision. Build a more accurate set of phrases for heritage and construction, and check whether each expression fits its intended meaning. More precise vocabulary would make your arguments easier to understand and more persuasive.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “if government and big companies work together” and a contrast introduced by “despite.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors occur in basic sentence patterns as well as longer attempts. Examples include “despite the fact of that,” “youngsters likes,” “they cannot preserved them,” and “I think it not costly.” The sentence beginning “On the other side” also combines “if” and “but” in a way that makes its structure difficult to follow. Practise subject–verb agreement, verb forms after modal verbs, and complete clause patterns. Aim to make each sentence grammatically complete before adding extra clauses.
