Student answer (Band 6.0)
There are few who believe it is better to havae morden buildings in town instead of renovating old infrastructures. Goverment should consider putting money in building more hi-tech infrastructures. While some argue and say we should preserve old halls and galaries even if it cost us more. In this eassay I will discuss both the views and give my opinion.
The opponent of the view stats that, People who pay tax deserve all modern eminities in a building and so it is better to make new buildings and replace old ones. For example, in Dubai people live lavish life. Dubai is known for its new and highend architectural buildings. It not only gives people a sense of luxury who live there but also boost its countries economy as many people love to invest, travel and stay there as the buildings are clean and beautiful.
The proponent of the view argue that, Even though its important to have luxuary and beautiful buildings in out town to make our place beautiful. It is also necessary to preserve our historical buildings. The are our roots and some architectural designs carved in previous time are far more valuavle than morden buildings. These type of unique paintings and carvings are no where to be found for example; Ahmedabad my hometown is awarded as natitional heritage city because the goverment had spent more to keep our old hertiage designs like ahmedabad pol still has house as it used to be in earlt 80s. The unique design and carvings are somthing that we all cherish. Apart from this ahmedabad still has maintained hertiage gates all across ahmedabad which was made by the king of ahmedabad Ahmad shah. These buildings are historical beauty and should be well maintained. Moreover there are halls like rabindranath tagor hall and pandit dindayal hall which were made by the respective icon, which can cater thousands of people and still today is in a great shape. These halls and old buildings even though costs more to maintain but till today has a special place in everyone living in that town and this is what makes my town beautiful.
In my opinion it is always better to cherish and preserve our history, art and buldings as these makes us what we are today. Some morden facilities are essential to keep up with the change, But we need to keep our ancistoral buildings and pass on to the future generation so they also feel conected to their roots.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both sides of the discussion and make your own position clear: you favour preserving historic buildings while accepting that some modern facilities are needed. The examples from Ahmedabad, including the pol houses, heritage gates and public halls, give your argument a personal and relevant basis. This meets the task well, and the specific local detail begins to show the fuller support expected at a stronger level. However, the case for replacing old buildings is developed mainly through Dubai’s luxury image and economic appeal; it would be more balanced if you explained practical benefits such as accessibility, safety or lower maintenance costs. Some claims about the value of heritage are repeated rather than further analysed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph for each view, and a conclusion that restates your opinion. The progression from the modern-building argument to the heritage argument is generally easy to follow, and examples are placed with the relevant points. However, links can feel mechanical or unclear. For instance, “The opponent of the view” and “The proponent of the view” are awkward signposts, while “Apart from this” and “Moreover” introduce several details in quick succession without showing their relationship. The long heritage paragraph would be clearer if divided into smaller units or organised around distinct reasons. Use pronouns and linking phrases carefully so references remain clear and ideas connect more smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “preserve,” “historical,” “architectural designs,” “heritage” and “maintained,” and the local examples help make your meaning clear. There are also some less common expressions, such as “sense of luxury” and “cherish.” However, spelling errors are frequent and sometimes distract the reader: examples include “galaries,” “eminities,” “valuavle” and “ancistoral.” Some word choices or collocations are imprecise, such as “old infrastructures,” “boost its countries economy” and “the respective icon.” Aim for accurate, natural combinations and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary for the practical advantages of modern buildings would also help you discuss both views with greater flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You use both simple sentences and attempts at more complex structures, including clauses with “even though,” “as” and “because.” This allows you to explain reasons and add examples, but control is uneven, and errors sometimes make sentences difficult to process. For example, “The are our roots” lacks a subject, and “These type of unique paintings” has a number-agreement problem. The sentence beginning “It not only gives people…” also shifts awkwardly between singular “it” and plural “buildings.” Several sentences run on, particularly in the Ahmedabad paragraph, and punctuation around introductory phrases and clauses is inconsistent. Practise building accurate complex sentences, checking subject–verb agreement, articles and sentence boundaries before adding further detail.
