Student answer (Band 6.5)
Buildings are an essential part of a city's indentity, reflecting its history, culture and development. Therefore, many people believe that old buildings such as town hallls and art galleries should be restored at any cost. However, others think that Government should replace with new architect designs. This essay is an attempt to analyze both the views and give my opinion in the upcoming paragraphs.
To begin with, it is easy to understand that why venerable buildings are crucial for the preservation. Firstly, in this way we can preserve our rich cultural heritage and history for upcoming generation and they can get knowledge about it and also attach with our roots emotionally. Secondly, those buildings attract visitors which boost the local economy. For example, in India Taj Mahal which is situated nearby Delhi which attract visitors due to the unique structure, style and so on. Lastly, when tourist increased in particular area then people can easily get job opportunities which raise their living standards and they can also open their own business.
On the other hand, there are some reasons why replacement is required for the old buildings. The first and foremost is that sometimes old buildings are unsafe and structurally damaged then replacement is beat option. For example, in many cases when old buildings are situated in residential area during natural calamity such as earthquake people can lost their life. In addition to this, modern buildings offers batter facilities and technology which is energy efficient such as solar panels, enery-efficient lighting and so on. Despite it, restoration can be extremely expensive which can increase burden on government.
In the final anlysis, in my opinion historical and culturally important buildings should be restored whenever feasible and those buildings that are unsafe, impratical or too costly to repair should be replaced with new buildings.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses both sides of the discussion and gives a clear final position: restore historically important buildings where feasible, but replace those that are unsafe or impractical to repair. The reasons are relevant, including heritage, tourism, employment, safety, modern facilities and public cost. The Taj Mahal example supports the tourism point, although its location is described imprecisely and the example could be linked more directly to restoration. Some ideas are less fully developed than others: the benefits of modern technology and the claim that restoration burdens government are stated but not explained with a specific illustration. The introduction also promises an analysis rather than directly establishing the writer’s position, which becomes clearest only in the conclusion. Developing these points and stating the view earlier would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion that returns to the writer’s position. The progression within the paragraphs is generally logical, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand,” and “In addition to this” help readers follow the argument. This organisation is effective, though some linking is formulaic, particularly the repeated sequencing words “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Lastly.” A few references are not fully clear—for example, “Despite it” does not specify exactly which point it contrasts with, and the opening of the first body paragraph is awkwardly connected to the explanation that follows. Use more natural transitions and clearer references to strengthen the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
There is an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “cultural heritage,” “structurally damaged,” “energy efficient,” and “living standards.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and the writer attempts less common expressions such as “venerable buildings.” However, several word-choice, collocation and spelling errors reduce precision: “indentity,” “town hallls,” “beat option,” “batter facilities,” and “impratical.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “attach with our roots emotionally” and “new architect designs.” These errors do not prevent understanding, but they make parts of the response less fluent and precise. Focus on accurate collocations and proofreading spelling, while choosing natural expressions over ambitious but uncertain wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response uses both simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “those buildings that are unsafe … should be replaced” and a reason clause beginning “when old buildings are situated…”. The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur across the essay. Examples include “it is easy to understand that why,” “Government should replace with,” and “when tourist increased,” where clause structure, verb form or agreement is not controlled. There are also errors in “modern buildings offers” and “people can lost their life.” These patterns show that complex ideas are being attempted, but accuracy is not consistent. Practise complete clause structures, subject–verb agreement and modal verb patterns, then check each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb.
