Student answer (Band 6.0)
There is an ongoing debate about whether the government should spend more public funds on historic buildings or on new ones. While restoration of heritage is essential, i personally believe that both objectives should be considered equally and decision should be made depending solely on the community's interests.
On one hand, some argue that old buildings should be preserved because they represent a nation' s cultural heritage. It represents past people's progress and the new generations can remember their ancestors in that way. Moreover, it can be great source of entertainment for community as well.Furthermore, they can attract a great number of tourist community which can generate a significant amount of revenue. For instance, Turkey generates a significant amount by investing and preserving heritage mosques and buildings.
On the other hand, many argue that rather than investing on old, impractical buildings, that money can be used for the construction of new buildings that can prove to be very beneficial for a community. For example, in a poor country like Pakistan a new and modern hospital can be built which can provide excellent healthcare oppertunities to the public where basic good hospitals are scarce.
In my opionion, it all depends upon the circumstances of a community.Government should evaluate and then decide which of these two will be more beneficial for the community.Additionaly, not all fund should be allocated for a single objective in any case, there should be a balance between both things.
In conclusion, investing on old buildings provide some benefits in terms of past remoir and tourist attraction. However, new buildings can be more beneficial for a community in certain circumstances.Decesion should always be made after taking into regard of present community interests.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses both sides of the discussion and gives a clear overall position: decisions should depend on community needs, with a balance between preservation and new construction. The examples of heritage sites in Turkey and a modern hospital in Pakistan make the arguments relevant. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For instance, the cultural value of old buildings is mentioned, but the essay could explain more specifically how preserving them benefits residents beyond tourism. Likewise, the final position that both objectives should be considered equally is not fully reconciled with the later claim that decisions depend on circumstances. Clarifying this principle and developing the supporting reasoning would make the response more complete and convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay has a clear structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, a paragraph stating your opinion, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” makes the progression easy to follow. The main ideas are generally grouped logically, and the reader can distinguish the arguments for preservation from those for new construction. To strengthen cohesion further, make links between related points more explicit and avoid relying so heavily on formulaic transitions. For example, the tourism point could be connected directly to the claim about cultural heritage, while the opinion paragraph could explain how its balancing principle follows from the two examples. Check spacing after full stops, as several sentences run together.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “cultural heritage,” “construction,” “healthcare,” and “revenue,” and these choices help communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “depending solely on the community’s interests.” However, inaccurate word forms, spelling, and collocations reduce precision: “oppertunities,” “opionion,” “remoir,” and “Decesion” should be corrected, while “investing on old” and “tourist community” are not natural expressions in this context. Some wording is also vague, such as “both things.” Build accuracy by learning common word partnerships and checking spelling, and choose precise nouns such as “preservation,” “facilities,” or “local residents” where appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response includes both simple sentences and more complex structures, such as “rather than investing on old, impractical buildings, that money can be used…” and “which can provide excellent healthcare…” This gives you a useful foundation for expressing comparisons and adding supporting detail. Some grammatical errors remain, though the overall meaning is generally clear. Examples include missing articles in “can be great source” and “decision should be made,” inconsistent agreement in “It represents” after plural “buildings,” and the sentence fragment-like construction “Government should evaluate and then decide which of these two will be more beneficial.” Punctuation and spacing also need attention, particularly where sentences run together. Review articles, subject–verb agreement, and sentence boundaries to improve control.
