Student answer (Band 5.5)

Certain individuals think that the government should focus on restoring the old architectural buildings such as town halls and art galleries despite of its cost. While some people think that government should construct new buildings. From my perspective, I think that new and modern buildings should be constructed according to the environment and climate adaptability.

People usually like the old buildings becuase of their architectural taste. One of the key consideration to restore the old buildings is to increase the tourism in the country as many foriegners are fond of discovering old architectural sites. For an instance, if the government invests in restoring the old buildings, it can become one of the tourist places in the country leading to promote tourism and generate the money. Although the investment in restoring town halls and art galleries can generate money, it cannot adapt to the modern technology.

I argue that the governments should invest in the modern and new technology buildings. These buildings can be constructed according to the climate change in the modern era. As global warming is increasing day by day, new buildings can be contructed based on green house technology. Such technology will help in keeping the modern buildings cool. For example, when government invests in building modern technology buildings, it will enhance the economic dvelopment of the country as well because big investors around the globe will invest in our modern buildings.

In conlusion, rather than investing in old buildings for architectural purpose, the government should invest in constructing modern infrastructure to attract the global investments in the country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You discuss both positions and state a clear preference for modern construction, particularly in the opening and conclusion. The points about tourism and architectural interest explain why restoration is valued, while climate adaptation and investment support your own view. However, the discussion is uneven: the case for preserving old buildings is mainly limited to tourism, and the claim that restored buildings cannot adapt to modern technology is asserted rather than explained. The economic-development point about attracting investors also needs a clearer link to public buildings. To strengthen the response, develop each side with a specific, relevant example and explain the trade-offs, such as heritage value versus the cost and practicality of upgrading older structures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph on restoration, a paragraph supporting modern buildings, and a conclusion. This makes the main position easy to identify. You also use linking expressions such as “Although,” “For example,” and “In conclusion” to signal relationships between ideas. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and some links do not clearly show how one claim leads to the next. For instance, the move from green-house technology to attracting global investors is not sufficiently explained. The repeated use of “buildings” and “government” also makes the flow less varied. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example directly to the point it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “architectural,” “tourism,” “climate change,” “green house technology,” and “global investments.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, but the range is limited and some expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, which keeps the wording from being consistently precise. Examples include “architectural taste,” “For an instance,” and “economic dvelopment”; spelling errors such as “becuase,” “foriegners,” and “contructed” are also noticeable. Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise terms for heritage, renovation costs, energy efficiency, and modernisation would help you explain the competing arguments with greater clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a concession clause beginning “Although” and a conditional example beginning “if the government invests.” The overall meaning is generally understandable, but errors recur in sentence construction and grammatical forms. For example, “despite of its cost” uses an incorrect preposition pattern, and “One of the key consideration” has a number-agreement error. Articles are also missing in phrases such as “government should construct new buildings,” while “it cannot adapt” has an unclear reference. The opening contains a sentence fragment beginning “While some people think.” Practise accurate article use, agreement, and complete sentence formation, then check that pronouns clearly refer to the intended noun.
