Student answer (Band 6.0)

The art galleries, town halls and the old buildings are one of the vital parts of ancient history and heritage of the society. In this essay i will be comparing two different opinions from the people regarding the restoration of the ancient buildings, is it a right thing to do or not. I will discuss them as per my knowledge and experinace.

Restoring of art galleries helps the younger generation to be part of their ancient history and also help them understand and learn what happend in the past. The old buildings and the town halls helps them to understand the value of the ancient structures and how they were built, even before the invention of modern machinery and tools.

The restoration process, on the other hand can be very costly and time consuming. The huge amount of money that is spend on this process, can rather be used for building modern and better buildings such as schools and hospitals. These buildings are more significant and are much more required in todays world.

Overall, i partially agree with the statement that the majority of the money should be spent on building new infrastructures as they play a bigger role in shaping the newer generation and helps them to lead a more sustainable lifestyle, although ancient buildings such as the Taj Mahal and the CN tower are one of the greatest and few discriptions of architecture that the mankind has ever seen, so spending money on restoring structures like them should be part of the governments policies and government should spend the money that is required to keep them intact.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the discussion: preserving historic buildings is linked to learning about the past, while replacing them is presented as a way to provide schools and hospitals. Your position is also stated, with a qualified preference for new infrastructure while supporting restoration of especially significant landmarks. This covers the task, but the arguments are not equally developed. The benefits of restoration are explained in general terms, and the case for modern buildings would be stronger with a specific example or clearer explanation of how they improve people’s lives. The final reference to the Taj Mahal and CN Tower helps illustrate heritage value, but the essay could make its overall judgement more explicit and consistent throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on restoration, a paragraph on the costs and alternatives, and a concluding opinion. The contrast marker “on the other hand” helps signal the shift between views, and the conclusion brings the two positions together. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes limited: several sentences repeat the idea that historic buildings teach people about the past without adding distinct supporting points. The introduction’s promise to compare opinions is also somewhat formulaic, and the long final sentence combines several ideas, making the conclusion harder to follow. Develop each paragraph around a clear main point, then use more precise links between the claim, explanation, and example.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “restoration,” “heritage,” “ancient structures,” “modern machinery,” and “sustainable lifestyle.” These choices make the subject clear, and terms such as “Taj Mahal” and “CN Tower” provide relevant specificity. There are also some inaccurate or awkward choices that limit precision: “descriptions of architecture” does not express the intended idea as naturally as “examples of architecture,” and “newer generation” is less suitable than “future generations.” Spelling errors such as “experinace,” “happend,” and “discriptions” are noticeable, though the meaning remains understandable. Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling carefully, especially in key topic words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrastive sentence beginning “although” and a relative clause in “buildings such as schools and hospitals.” Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors recur. Subject–verb agreement is inconsistent in “buildings … helps” and “they … helps”; these subjects require plural verb forms. There are also article and sentence-construction problems in the opening, particularly “The art galleries, town halls and the old buildings are one of the vital parts,” where the plural subject does not agree with “one.” The final sentence is very long and joins several clauses, so punctuation and clause boundaries become difficult to control. Use a wider variety of sentence lengths and check agreement and clause structure during revision.
