Student answer (Band 5.5)

Many people belived that old buildings should be restored but other people disagree about the idea and thinks that old building should be replaced by making new modern buildings.I will discuss both views and will finally conclude the result in this essay

on one hand people belives that old buildings are the historical landmarks that should be restored .Government must invests on them .These are the buildings which contain traditional and cultural things and equiments In modern society Furthermore children can learn and even scientist and researchers can get many ideas from them.for example many schools visit to museam to show students about the cultures and aknowledge them about the histroy they can learn from manuscripts books paintings and other tools as well. But unfortunately this cannot happen in some countries and remain the centre of ingnorance due to its high expenceses.

on the other hand some people believe that old buildings must be replaced by modern buildings .As these people do not have intrest in histroy they need some activites for their daily .They believe new buildings like comunity centres for public connectivity meeting are more important for the society.likewise for instance modern libraries must be constructed for modern educational facilities.some buildings like eco friendly commericial buildings with solar panels and modern facilities would be much benefical as these are not that much costly and these are much beneficial for our countries

Although constructing modern buildings offers practicle advantages.i believe that historical significant buildings should be restored whenever possible ,as they represent nation cultural identity.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the question and give a clear opinion in the conclusion: you favour restoring historically significant buildings when possible. The discussion of restoration is supported with relevant points about cultural identity and students learning from manuscripts, paintings and other artefacts. You also offer modern libraries and community centres as reasons to build anew. However, the case for replacement is less fully explained, and the claim that modern buildings are “not that much costly” is not supported or clearly compared with restoration costs. Develop each view with a specific example and explain the trade-offs more precisely to make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a concluding opinion. Phrases such as “on one hand,” “on the other hand” and “Although” help signal the argument’s direction. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Furthermore” introduces several ideas without showing how they relate, while “likewise for instance” combines two linking expressions awkwardly. The long first body paragraph also moves quickly from cultural value to school visits and then to expense. Use clearer topic sentences, divide related points logically, and make references such as “these people” more precise so the progression is easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “historical landmarks,” “cultural identity,” “manuscripts,” “community centres” and “solar panels.” These choices show an attempt to discuss heritage and modern development rather than relying only on basic terms. However, spelling errors and inaccurate word choices are noticeable, including “belived,” “histroy,” “ingnorance” and “benefical.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “public connectivity meeting” and “traditional and cultural things and equiments.” Choose more natural collocations and check spelling carefully; this would make your meaning clearer and help you use the range you are attempting more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrastive conclusion beginning “Although constructing modern buildings offers practical advantages.” However, some sentence structures are incomplete or incorrectly joined. That example is a dependent clause and needs to be connected to the main clause with a comma. There are also errors in agreement and verb forms, as in “other people … thinks” and “Government must invests,” as well as missing or inconsistent articles and plural forms. These errors sometimes make the reader pause, although the main argument remains understandable. Practise building complete sentences and checking subject–verb agreement, articles and punctuation, while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
