Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is an ongoing debate about whether it is beneficial to reconstruct the historical monuments, buildings, art galleries despite it can be money expensive. However a few individuals believe that authorities should spent that money to build high tech buildings instead of protecting old buildings. I will discuss both perspectives and explain why I believe that preserving historical monuments is beneficial.

To begin with, there are various reasons why people think that preserving old monuments should be necessary. Firstly, it is much easier to explain and teach about the history and artwork. A news article revealed that children are better at understanding when learn things practically instead of reading facts. Those visual scenes helps them to learn about the history in easier way. Secondly, it is beneficial for the government as well. Authorities can generate profit by selling tickets. Every year more and more people visit these art galleries for a unique experience. Thus, this helps authorities to earn good profit.

On the pother hand, many people believe that government should replaced it with modern buildings. One significant reason is that constructing new buildings cost much lesser in long term because it requires a lot of money to maintain the old monuments. As a result, that becomes the reason for wastage of energy and money. Moreover, as population is growing, priority of government should be towards to build new homes for people instead of wasting money on old monuments.

In conclusion, although some people believe that authorities should build modern buildings , I am convinced that it is much important to preserve the town halls and art galleries for the future generation because they can learn beneficial lessons from the history.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and state a clear preference for preserving historic buildings, particularly in the introduction and conclusion. The reasons for restoration—teaching history through direct experience and earning ticket revenue—are relevant, as are the opposing points about maintenance costs and the need for housing. However, these ideas are not developed equally: the educational point relies on a general reference to a news article, while the housing argument is introduced but not supported with an example or explanation of how replacement would meet that need. Explain the trade-offs more fully and connect examples directly to the claims. This would make the discussion more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion that restates your position. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “Firstly,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the discussion, and the contrast between the views is easy to identify. To strengthen the progression further, make links between claims and their explanations more explicit; for example, the move from population growth to building homes could be developed rather than left as a brief assertion. Some linking is formulaic, and “On the pother hand” contains a distracting typo. Use a wider variety of natural transitions and clearer references to maintain smooth cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “historical monuments,” “authorities,” “maintain,” and “future generation,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at less common expressions, but several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “money expensive,” “high tech buildings,” and “earn good profit.” “Reconstruct” is also not the best fit when you mean preserving or restoring existing buildings. These choices sometimes make the reader pause, although the overall meaning remains understandable. Build a more precise range of vocabulary for heritage and public spending, and check collocations and word forms when revising.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in the conclusion and a reason-result structure with “As a result.” Most ideas can be understood, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “authorities should spent” needs the base verb after “should,” and “government should replaced it” has the same verb-form problem. There are also issues with articles, agreement, and sentence construction in “Those visual scenes helps them” and “when learn things practically.” Review subject–verb agreement, verb patterns after modal verbs, and complete clauses. More accurate control of these patterns would make your varied sentences clearer and more reliable.
