Student answer (Band 5.5)
In this contemporary world, Numerous indiviuals think that ancient structures needs to be restored irrespective of the total expenditure on it meanwhile many critics argue that they should be replaced with new modern structures. I firmly believe that ancient structures must be restored as it gives an opportunity for future generations to see these building which has a prolonged history and cultural importance in their society rather than just hearing about them from elders.
To begin with, Old Buildings such as town halls and art galleries has witness a number of events that has been of significance in modern society. They were the pillar point for the growth of the country and always remind people to look back and see what they have acheived Additionally the cost of demolition and then building a whole new structure will be very expensive.
Meanwhile, A large portion of indiviuals are of view that instead of spending time and money on restoration of these buildings they should simply be replaced with new modern facilities citting the fact that old structures needs contant work and renovation projects which will be more expensive in long term. Although said that i still believe that the advantages of restroring old building outweighs the disadvantages.
To summarise, I would strongly recomment the restoration of older structures as it gives an opportunity for young generation to see all their ancients buildings in person and also it will help them to learn a lot about their past significance leading to the modern society with good growth and development.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You present a clear opinion in favour of restoring old buildings and mention relevant reasons, including their historical value and the cost of demolition and replacement. You also explain the opposing view that older structures require ongoing maintenance. However, the discussion is only partially developed: the benefits of modern buildings are not explained beyond the claim that restoration costs more over time, and the examples remain general. The conclusion repeats your position rather than extending it. The response is 248 words, so it falls two words short of the 250-word minimum; the nine words copied from the prompt are not counted. Develop both sides with specific supporting examples and ensure the response meets the required length.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a concluding paragraph. This makes the overall argument easy to follow, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Meanwhile,” and “To summarise” help indicate the stages of the discussion. However, some linking is mechanical, and the relationship between ideas is not always smooth. For example, “Additionally” introduces the cost point without clearly connecting it to the historical argument, while “Although said that” makes the transition to your opinion awkward. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, as in “they should simply be replaced,” where the referent could be stated more precisely. Use fewer formulaic transitions and connect each supporting point explicitly to the paragraph’s main idea.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “restored,” “cultural importance,” “demolition,” “renovation,” and “modern facilities,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There is also an attempt to use less common expressions such as “prolonged history.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “pillar point,” “citting the fact,” and “ancients buildings.” Spelling errors such as “indiviuals,” “acheived,” and “recomment” are noticeable and reduce the overall control of vocabulary. Aim for precise, natural combinations and proofread carefully; for instance, use “historical significance” and “ongoing maintenance” where appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a relative clause in “which has a prolonged history” and a contrast structure beginning “Although.” These attempts show some range, but errors are frequent and sometimes make the reader pause. Subject–verb agreement is inconsistent: “ancient structures needs” and “town halls and art galleries has witness” should use plural verb forms. There are also problems with articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries, as in “these building,” “old building,” and the run-on sentence ending “what they have acheived Additionally.” Capitalisation after commas and sentence openings is inconsistent. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and correctly matched verb, then review punctuation and article use.
