Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some people argue that children should be encouraged to watch TV at home and at school. I partially agreee with this statement because by watching television children can learn about many different aspects of science, arts and culture but some form of moderation is required for the contents and prevention for the chance of addiction.

Watching television can provide children with various aspects of knowledge. Firstly, the young individuals are interested in the wild life and cartoon programs. These programs can provide them valuable knowledge of biology and different moral learnings. For instance, cartoon programs such as Doraemon can teach the children about how to help others, while also entertaining them. Furthermore, the young peoplecan learn languages through watching foreign TV shows due to their nuroplastisity. Therefore, encouraging children to watch TV might be benefical to them.

Still, some parental moderation is required to prevent addiction and to ensure they are watching appropriate contents. If unattended, the young people can be addicted to cartoons and TV shows, while avoiding their homeworks and other regular activities. Additionally, without proper moderation they might get exposed to inappropriate contents and this might ruin their mental health. Consequently, although children should be encouraged to watch TV shows, without moderation this can be rather harmful.

In conclusion, many people believe that, we should encourage the young people to watch television because of the learnings they might aquire and I partialy agree with this statement. Children can learn many things including science, arts, moral lessons from watching TV, however, moderation is required for preventing addiction and exposure to inappropriate contents.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you partially agree, supporting television as a source of learning while arguing that viewing needs moderation. You address both the educational benefits and the risks, and examples such as Doraemon and learning languages help make the discussion relevant. This meets the task well, but the support is uneven: the moral lessons from cartoons are illustrated, whereas the claim that television teaches science and arts is not developed with a specific example. The risks of addiction and exposure to unsuitable material are also asserted rather than explained in detail. To strengthen the response further, extend these points with concrete examples and explain how supervised viewing can preserve benefits while limiting harm.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear overall progression: an introduction states your qualified position, two body paragraphs present benefits and concerns, and the conclusion restates the main argument. Linking expressions such as “Firstly,” “Furthermore,” “Still,” and “Consequently” help readers follow the shift from advantages to risks. Paragraphing is appropriate and each paragraph has a recognisable focus. Some connections could be more precise, however. For example, “Therefore” introduces a broad conclusion about encouraging television without clearly linking language learning to the need for moderation. The conclusion also repeats several points from the introduction rather than synthesising them. Use references and transitions that show the relationship between ideas more explicitly, and make the final paragraph draw together the conditions for beneficial viewing.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “moderation,” “inappropriate,” “exposed,” and “mental health.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and you attempt more specific terms such as “neuroplasticity.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “various aspects of knowledge,” “different moral learnings,” and “appropriate contents.” Spelling errors such as “benefical,” “aquire,” and “partialy” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim to learn common word partnerships and check spelling carefully; for example, use “a range of knowledge,” “moral lessons,” and “suitable content.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a reason clause with “because,” a conditional structure beginning “If unattended,” and a concession with “although.” Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly. Some grammatical errors remain, however. In “the young people can be addicted … while avoiding their homeworks,” the subject relationship is unclear, and “homeworks” is incorrectly pluralised. The opening “I partially agreee” also contains a spelling slip rather than a grammar error, while “we should encourage” shifts from the essay’s general third-person framing to first person. In the conclusion, “many people believe that, we should” has unnecessary punctuation. Review sentence boundaries, agreement and consistent pronoun use, while continuing to practise complex structures.
