Student answer (Band 5.5)
Television is a usual part of majority children's lives. Children can learn from watching television,so they should be encouraged to watch more television at home and at school. But most of them will watch entertainment channels instead of knowledge.
Firstly, Televisions can have detrimental affect on children's academic performance and watching too much can aslo affect their eyesight. Many students spend their time watching television instead of doing their homework. Watching television at school can distract children's focus from studies. from my experience i have seen children's affecting their eyesights and sleep schdules by watching TV''s late at night.
Secondly, Excessive usage of television can affect students social skills and mental being.Instead of interacting with their family children's spend their time watching TV at home. This reduces opprtunities to develop communication skills, and participating in physical activities. and interaction with their friends become limited which makes them socially inactive.
on the other hand, the television can be a good source of information if children's select some specific channels to watch which is only based pn informative programs such as National geographic, Discovery channel. These channels can be informativr for them they learn about science, history and wildlife. at school also Tv's can help in study and a reason to focus for nursery students.
In conclusion, I strongly believes that television can distract students from study and hinder their development it can affect their academic progress. Restricting their use would help Children's to involve in more physical activities and outdoor activities which is more beneficial for their growth period.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You take a clear position against encouraging children to watch more television, and your points about academic performance, social skills and the educational value of selected channels are relevant. The examples of homework, sleep and programmes such as National Geographic help make the discussion concrete. However, the opposing view is only briefly acknowledged, and the educational benefits are not developed as fully as the disadvantages. The conclusion repeats your position rather than drawing the arguments together. The response also contains 235 words, so it is 15 words below the required minimum; this limits the space available to explain and support your ideas. Develop both sides more fully and add a specific example or explanation to each main point.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two paragraphs presenting disadvantages, a paragraph acknowledging benefits, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the main stages. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the second body paragraph moves from family interaction to physical activity and then friendship without clearly connecting these points. Some transitions are mechanical, and the opening “But” does not clearly establish the relationship between the prompt and your position. Sentence boundaries and punctuation also interrupt the flow. Use clearer topic sentences, connect each supporting detail explicitly to the paragraph’s main idea, and vary linking methods rather than relying mainly on sequence markers.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “academic performance,” “communication skills,” “informative programs,” and “physical activities.” These choices make your main concerns understandable, and naming National Geographic and Discovery Channel gives the discussion some specificity. However, the range is limited by repeated use of “television,” “students,” and “affect,” while several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “mental being,” “opportunities to develop communication skills, and participating,” and “a reason to focus.” Spelling errors, including “schdules,” “opprtunities,” and “informativr,” also reduce accuracy. Build a wider set of natural expressions for educational benefits and harms, and check spelling and collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including clauses beginning with “if” and “which,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often faulty. For example, “I strongly believes” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, while “children's spend their time” uses an incorrect possessive form. There are also problems with articles, plurals and sentence boundaries, as in “Televisions can have detrimental affect” and the run-on sequence “This reduces… and participating… and interaction…”. Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent. Practise constructing accurate compound and complex sentences, checking agreement and clause structure, and separating complete sentences with appropriate punctuation.
