Student answer (Band 5.0)

The graph here represents how working people in a specific country spend their times in 1958 and 2008. It explains the details by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where necessary.

As we can see in these two graphs, In 1958, 19% of workers arre going with families to spend their time but in 2008 only 6% of workers are spending time wiht their families. There is a decline in spending time with family. People are getting more busy in their lives and don't have enough time for their families. And we can see that in 1958 people are working with the percentage of 33 and by the time of 2008, people working are 42%.

These are some important facts that can make us understand that people in 1958 have their work balanced life, instead of just working they were also giving time to their families. People of 1958 have everything in balance. That is also the basic code of life to give attention to everything.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify two important changes accurately: time spent going out with friends or family fell from 19% to 6%, while working rose from 33% to 42%. However, the response only partially summarises the charts. It omits other major categories, including sleeping, which decreased from 32% to 25%, and the appearance of sports and increased travel time in 2008. There is also no clear, chart-based overview of the overall pattern. The claims that people in 1958 had a balanced life and that people are now too busy are interpretations rather than information shown by the data. Focus on the main comparisons and avoid explaining causes the charts do not provide.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure, and the two comparisons are grouped together in the middle paragraph. Some linking phrases, such as “but” and “and,” help show contrast or add information. However, there is no clear progression from an overview to a systematic comparison of the categories. The final paragraph shifts from reporting figures to general advice about life, which weakens the organisation of a chart summary. Repeated openings such as “As we can see” and “And we can see” also make the linking mechanical. Organise the response around an overview followed by grouped comparisons, and use references such as “this proportion” only when their meaning is clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough basic vocabulary to communicate the two main comparisons, including “decline,” “percentage,” and “spending time.” However, the range is limited and several expressions are awkward or imprecise for describing a pie chart. “Going with families to spend their time” and “people are working with the percentage of 33” make the data harder to interpret, while “spend their times” is not a natural expression here. There are also spelling errors, including “arre” and “wiht.” Use concise chart language such as “the proportion of adults,” “accounted for,” and “fell from … to …”; check spelling and choose precise labels for each activity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You produce several understandable simple sentences and attempt longer structures, for example, “People are getting more busy in their lives and don't have enough time for their families.” However, the range is limited, and errors in sentence construction and tense control recur. In “The graph here represents how working people … spend their times in 1958 and 2008,” the present-tense “spend” does not fit the two past years. The opening sentence also joins “by selecting and reporting” with “make comparisons” without parallel grammatical forms. Capitalisation after “In 1958” and punctuation around sentence openings are inconsistent. Practise past-tense reporting and parallel structures, and use a wider mix of accurate comparison sentences.
