Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the main pattern that working took the largest share in both years, and you report most of the chart figures accurately, including the 1958 figures and the 2008 shares for work, sleep and travel. However, the overview is unclear: the phrase about the lowest proportions mixes up the years and activities. In 2008, going out with friends/family was lowest, while travel and sport were both 7%; in 1958, travel was lowest. The comparison of how activities changed between years is also limited, and the response does not meet the 150-word minimum: it contains 112 words, with 13 prompt words excluded. Add a clearer overview and compare the main rises and falls.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic overall structure: an opening overview is followed by a paragraph for each year, which helps the reader locate the figures. You also use simple linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Meanwhile,” and “Finally.” However, progression is weakened by unclear or awkward connections, particularly “while travelling to work in 1958 and that 2008 going out…” and “Meanwhile, that 2008…”. The overview also combines comparisons in a way that is difficult to follow. Grouping the years more deliberately—for example, first describing the largest shares and then the notable changes—would create a clearer line of development. Use linking words only where the relationship between the information is explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “accounted for,” “represented,” “proportion,” and “made up,” and the activity labels generally make the data understandable. However, the range is limited and some word choices or forms are inaccurate, such as “illusteratiion,” “hightest,” “followede,” and “ot.” The phrase “sleeping working adults on various activities 25%” is also unclear, while “same playing sports” does not express the intended comparison naturally. These errors sometimes make the reader pause to interpret the information. Practise accurate spelling and use precise comparison language, such as “rose to,” “fell to,” and “was equal to,” rather than relying repeatedly on “accounted for” or “made up.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both simple statements and longer sentences, and several figures are presented in understandable structures, such as “Working accounted for 33%.” However, grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes obscure relationships between ideas. For example, “The illusteratiion given information about…” lacks a clear verb structure, and “Meanwhile, that 2008 Working accounted for 42%” uses an incorrect clause pattern. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent: there are missing spaces after full stops and commas, and some sentences begin with lowercase “sleeping” or “while.” Build reliable comparison sentences with a clear subject and verb, such as “In 2008, working accounted for 42% of the day,” and check articles, clause structure and punctuation.
