Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You cover both years and report the main figures accurately, including the rise in working from 33% to 42%, the fall in sleeping from 32% to 25%, and the sharp decline in socialising from 19% to 6%. The overview identifies working as the largest category in both years and notes the increase in commuting. This gives the response a clear account of the key changes. However, the overview is somewhat list-like and does not fully synthesise the contrast between increased work and travel and reduced sleep and socialising. The statement that working was the highest proportion is accurate, but the opening overview could more clearly group the major trends. A more selective comparison of the largest changes would make the main features more fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear four-paragraph structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate descriptions of the two years. This makes the information easy to locate, and sequencing the figures by year is a sensible approach. Some linking is effective, particularly “Furthermore” when moving to 2008, and “However” when contrasting figures. At times, though, connections feel mechanical or incomplete. The overview’s “While travelling to work increased significantly in 2008” is a fragment rather than a complete linked sentence, and “Whereas” similarly introduces a fragment at the end. The repeated use of “activity” also makes the progression less smooth. Connect these comparisons within complete sentences and use clearer references to the categories to improve cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for describing charts, including “accounted for,” “represented,” “increased moderately,” and “decreased dramatically.” These choices help communicate the main movements, and the meaning remains clear. However, some expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “working generation,” “spend their time involving in,” and “the highest percentage of working.” “Working activity” is also repeated where “work” or “time spent working” would be more natural. The phrase “stood at same” needs a more accurate collocation, such as “were equal at.” Aim for precise chart language and natural collocations; this would add flexibility and polish without requiring more complicated vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, and most figures can be understood without difficulty. However, some errors in sentence construction and verb patterns remain. The introduction says “how working generation spend,” where the noun phrase and verb form need correction; “spend their time involving in” also has an incorrect grammatical pattern. In the overview, “While travelling to work increased significantly in 2008” is a subordinate clause without a main clause. The final “Whereas, going out…” is likewise a fragment, and “Sleeping activity represented, at 25%” has an incomplete verb construction. Use complete clauses and check subject–verb agreement, articles, and verb patterns. More accurate complex sentences would strengthen the range already attempted.
