Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly limits the depth of the analysis. While you have identified some key features, such as the increase in working hours and the decrease in sleep, the report lacks a clear overview and fails to make meaningful comparisons between the two years. The description is largely a list of figures rather than a cohesive summary. To improve, you must ensure you reach the word count by grouping data logically and providing a clear summary of the main trends, rather than simply listing percentages for each category.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into very short, choppy sentences, which hinders the flow of information. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas together; for example, you rely on repetitive structures like 'it go up' or 'it is'. Paragraphing is also insufficient, as the entire response is essentially one block of text. To achieve a higher band, you should use linking words such as 'whereas', 'in contrast', or 'consequently' to connect your observations and organize your report into clear paragraphs: an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on specific trends.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive. You frequently use simple verbs like 'go up' or 'is' to describe trends. There is little attempt to use more precise vocabulary related to data analysis, such as 'increased', 'decreased', 'fluctuated', or 'remained stable'. Furthermore, the phrasing is often unnatural, such as '1958 not have sports'. To improve, you should expand your range of vocabulary by using synonyms and more sophisticated collocations to describe changes in data, which will help you convey your points with greater precision and variety.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The grammar is characterized by frequent errors in tense and sentence structure. For instance, you use 'it go up' instead of 'it went up' or 'it has increased'. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and missing articles, such as 'working is very big' and 'in 2008 year'. The sentence structures are almost exclusively simple, with no attempt at complex sentences. To improve, focus on using correct verb tenses for past data and incorporating a wider variety of sentence structures, including subordinate clauses, to demonstrate better control over English grammar.
