Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response covers all key features of the pie charts and provides a clear overview. You successfully identified the main trends, such as the increase in working hours and the decline in socialising. However, there is a significant error in the third paragraph where you repeat and contradict yourself regarding the 1958 data (e.g., stating work was 33% then immediately saying 20%). This inconsistency impacts the clarity of the data reporting. Despite this, the overall summary is effective, and you have made relevant comparisons between the two years as required by the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organised into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Meanwhile', and 'Although' to link ideas effectively. However, the paragraphing is slightly marred by the repetition and confusion in the third paragraph, where the text restarts mid-sentence. This disrupts the flow of the response. Improving the transition between sentences and ensuring that data points are presented clearly without redundant restarts would help achieve a higher band score for coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly. Phrases like 'allocated their time', 'dominant activity', and 'declined modestly' are used appropriately. There are some minor issues with word choice and repetition, such as 'relaxing t home' (typo) and the slightly repetitive structure of the data descriptions. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms for 'time spent' or 'proportion' to avoid repetitive phrasing. Overall, the vocabulary is adequate for the task and does not impede communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the use of 'whereas' and 'although' to contrast data. There are some grammatical errors, such as the missing 'a' in 'relaxing t home' and the fragmented sentence structure in the third paragraph ('Going out for with friends and In 1958...'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences and proofreading for minor typos would improve your score in this criterion.
