Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you have identified the main features of the charts, the analysis is somewhat superficial. You have successfully highlighted the key trends, such as the increase in working hours and the decline in sleep, but the comparison between the two years could be more detailed. The overview is also quite brief and lacks a clear synthesis of the data. To improve, ensure you provide a more comprehensive summary of the trends and ensure your response meets the minimum length requirement to avoid a penalty.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. Transitions between sentences are often abrupt, and the logical flow could be improved by using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'in contrast', 'furthermore'). The concluding paragraph is very short and does not effectively tie the information together. Improving the variety of your cohesive devices and ensuring a smoother transition between ideas will help you achieve a higher band score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range expected at higher bands. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'maximum time' and 'dramatic increase'. While these are accurate, they do not demonstrate a sophisticated command of language. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'after half decade of it' (which is also mathematically incorrect, as 1958 to 2008 is 50 years, not 5). Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise academic terms will significantly enhance your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. For example, 'the people are spending maximum time in working hours' is awkward, and 'decline in sleeping hours almost up to 7%' is grammatically incomplete. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing commas and incorrect sentence fragments. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and subject-verb agreement, and then work on incorporating more complex, error-free structures.
