Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have successfully identified the main features of the data and provided a clear overview. You included relevant comparisons between 1958 and 2008, such as the increase in work hours and the decline in social activities. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are fully integrated; for instance, you mentioned sports increased to 7% in 2008 but did not provide the 1958 figure for comparison. Additionally, ensure that the 'overview' paragraph highlights the most significant trends rather than just listing changes. Overall, you have addressed all parts of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'In addition to that', 'Meanwhile', and 'Furthermore' to guide the reader through the information. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from general trends to specific data points. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases further to avoid a slightly mechanical feel. The paragraphing is appropriate, with each section serving a distinct purpose in the report. The information is easy to follow throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly. Phrases like 'allocated more time', 'span of 6 decades', and 'reduction in time' are used appropriately. There are no significant spelling or word-choice errors that impede communication. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations or synonyms to avoid repeating 'time spent' or 'increased'. For example, using 'devoted to' or 'witnessed a surge' would add more sophistication to your writing style.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most of your sentences are clear and error-free, which allows for smooth reading. There are minor issues, such as 'time spent by sleeping' (should be 'time spent sleeping') and 'thereby increasing to 42%' (which is slightly awkward phrasing). However, these errors are infrequent and do not hinder the reader's understanding. To improve, focus on refining your use of participial phrases and ensuring prepositions are used correctly after specific verbs.
