Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all requirements of the task. You have successfully identified the main trends, such as the increase in working time and the decrease in sleep and social time. The overview is clear and provides a good summary of the data. However, the report could be improved by ensuring all data points are accurately described. For instance, you mention 'working time increased 11% throughout these years', which is a good calculation, but the description of the 'remainder' in 1958 is slightly vague. Overall, you have presented a clear comparison between the two years, which satisfies the requirements for a Band 6.5 or 7.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from the general trends to specific data points for each year. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'While', 'In 1958', and 'In 2008', to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the use of referencing could be more sophisticated to improve the flow between sentences. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the structure helps the reader follow the comparison easily.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'timespan', 'contribution', and 'socialising'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'recorded for about 19%' (should be 'accounted for') and 'playing sports shared the remainder of it'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your report. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise collocations related to data description, such as 'witnessed a significant decline' or 'remained relatively stable'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'working hours was about as important' (subject-verb agreement) and 'preferred to spent time' (incorrect verb form). Additionally, some sentences are slightly fragmented or awkward, such as 'Further reducing the sleeping time to only 25%'. Despite these errors, the grammar does not prevent the reader from understanding the information. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage will help improve your accuracy.
