Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the two charts and makes relevant comparisons. However, the overview is missing; a summary should highlight the most significant trends, such as the increase in working hours and the decrease in sleep. The data is presented in a list-like fashion, which lacks the analytical depth required for a higher band. While all categories are mentioned, the lack of a clear synthesis of the data means the response does not fully develop the comparison aspect of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is very limited and often mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'next comes' and 'when compared to'. There is a lack of sophisticated linking words to connect ideas between sentences and paragraphs. The progression of information is somewhat disjointed, as the transition between the description of 1958 and 2008 is abrupt. More varied transition signals are needed to improve the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'highest percentage' and 'least percentage' are used repeatedly, which limits the range. There are also some minor errors in word choice and phrasing, such as 'every percentage is different' and 'least time given'. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to use a wider range of synonyms and more precise collocations to describe trends and data points, such as 'accounted for', 'witnessed a rise', or 'remained stable'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('in particular country'), verb forms ('most time spend'), and sentence fragments ('For playing sports only 6%'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of complex sentence structures and the presence of persistent errors in basic grammar prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and sentence construction will be beneficial.
