Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the task by identifying the main features of the pie charts. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks a clear, cohesive overview. While you mention that activities took a 'moderate change', this could be more effectively developed by highlighting the most significant shifts, such as the decrease in sleep or the rise in work. Some data points are presented in isolation rather than being compared effectively. To improve, ensure you provide a clear summary of the most striking differences between the two years in the introduction or overview paragraph, and focus on grouping related data points to create a more analytical report rather than just listing percentages.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'To initiate with' and 'Moving ahead'. These transitions feel forced rather than natural. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to track the comparison between the two years. The final paragraph is very brief and does not effectively synthesise the information presented. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words that connect ideas logically rather than just marking the start of a new paragraph.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'working spendy' and '1 percentile less'. The range of vocabulary is limited, and you rely on basic descriptors. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise terminology for describing trends, such as 'increased by', 'decreased to', or 'remained stable'. Additionally, avoid repeating the same structures and try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations related to data interpretation, such as 'a significant proportion' or 'a notable shift'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('adults who was working', '33% adults was engaging') and incorrect verb tenses ('sleepig time was decrease'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several run-on sentences and missing capital letters at the start of sentences. While you attempt some complex structures, they are often marred by these errors, which can occasionally impede the reader's understanding. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your sentences are correctly punctuated. Proofreading for these fundamental errors will significantly improve your score.
