Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers the main features of the pie charts and makes relevant comparisons between 1958 and 2008. However, the reporting is somewhat mechanical, listing percentages rather than synthesizing the data into clear trends. While the key changes (such as the increase in working hours and the decrease in sleeping time) are identified, the overview is quite basic. To reach a higher band, you should focus on grouping the data more effectively—for example, contrasting activities that increased versus those that decreased—rather than listing each category sequentially. The conclusion is a good summary, but the overall analysis lacks the depth required for a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and repetitive. You rely heavily on simple transitions like 'In 1958' and 'On the other hand'. There is a lack of sophisticated linking words to connect ideas within sentences or between paragraphs. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences feels a bit disjointed. Improving the variety of your cohesive devices and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus would significantly improve the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You frequently use the same phrases, such as 'spend there time' and 'whole day'. There is little attempt to use more precise or academic vocabulary to describe trends (e.g., 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'accounted for'). Furthermore, there are consistent spelling errors, most notably the confusion between 'there' and 'their', and 'reduse' instead of 'reduce'. To improve, you should aim to vary your word choices and ensure you are using the correct forms of words to convey your meaning accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. The most prominent issue is the misuse of the possessive pronoun 'there' instead of 'their'. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and tense consistency, such as 'people spend there most of the time' and 'they reduse there sleeping time'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several run-on sentences and missing commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to lower the score. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors would be beneficial.
