Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task. You have identified the main features and provided relevant comparisons between the two years. The overview is clear and highlights the most significant trends, such as the increase in working hours and the decline in sleep. You have supported your points with accurate data from the charts. To reach a higher band, ensure that your overview is even more concise and that you avoid minor inaccuracies in data reporting, such as stating that 'travelling to work' doubled when it actually increased from 2% to 7% (more than triple).
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group information effectively. You use cohesive devices such as 'Starting with', 'However', and 'while' to guide the reader. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different categories of data. To improve, ensure that your transitions between sentences are smoother; some sentences feel slightly disjointed. Additionally, ensure that your referencing is precise; for example, in the second paragraph, ensure the connection between the categories mentioned and the trends described is perfectly clear.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly. Phrases like 'marginal increase', 'declined sharply', and 'with the passage of time' are used effectively. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'relaxing time at home has been significantly increased' (should be 'has increased') and 'statistics change from' (should be 'statistics changed from'). To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and ensure that your verb forms are consistent with the context of the data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'relaxing time at home has been significantly increased' and 'in the yeare 1958'. Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some spacing issues around commas. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher band. Focus on proofreading for small errors like missing articles or incorrect verb tenses to improve your accuracy.
