Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully address the task. While you have identified some key features, such as the increase in working hours and the decline in sleeping and family time, the analysis is very brief and lacks the necessary detail to provide a comprehensive summary. Several categories from the charts are omitted, and the comparison between the two years is underdeveloped. To improve, you must ensure you describe all major trends and provide a more thorough overview of the data provided in the diagrams.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organised into short paragraphs, which is a good start. However, the logical progression is hindered by the lack of sufficient content. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas together; for instance, the transition between the overview and the specific data points is abrupt. The use of referencing is also limited, making the text feel like a list of observations rather than a cohesive report. To improve, use linking words such as 'in contrast', 'furthermore', or 'consequently' to connect your sentences and ensure your ideas flow logically from one point to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is quite basic and repetitive, such as the repeated use of 'time' and 'people'. There are also errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'pai chart' instead of 'pie chart' and 'time spending' instead of 'time spent'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, try to incorporate more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'accounted for', and ensure you check your spelling carefully before submitting your work.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains several grammatical errors that affect clarity. For example, 'The pai chart illustrate that gives the information' is grammatically incorrect; it should be 'The pie chart illustrates the information'. There are also issues with verb tenses and prepositions, such as 'are declined' instead of 'declined' and 'maximum their time' instead of 'the majority of their time'. The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice, which is often necessary when describing data in academic reports.
