Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying key trends such as the increase in working hours and the decrease in time spent with family. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For instance, the mention of 'relaxing at home' in the conclusion is not supported by the data provided in the prompt, which is a significant issue. Additionally, while comparisons are attempted, the report lacks a clear, analytical overview that synthesizes the data effectively. To improve, ensure that every claim made in the summary is directly supported by the provided visual information and focus on grouping data points logically rather than listing them sequentially.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow between sentences is often mechanical. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes awkward, such as the abrupt transition 'similarly32 percent' which lacks proper spacing and punctuation. The concluding paragraph introduces new information not present in the body, which disrupts the logical progression of the argument. To achieve a higher band, use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'in contrast', 'furthermore', 'consequently') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data comparison.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher score. Phrases like 'drastically been limited' and 'remained same' are functional but basic. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'the individual spend' (should be plural 'individuals spend'). To improve, incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to trends and data, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'a significant decline'. Avoid repetitive phrasing and focus on using more precise terminology to describe the changes in the pie charts.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('the individual spend'), missing articles ('the travelling time'), and punctuation errors (e.g., '2008,similarly32'). The sentence structure is often repetitive, relying heavily on 'used to spend'. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses and punctuation. Incorporating a wider range of complex structures, such as subordinate clauses, would also help demonstrate better grammatical control.
