Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the charts, but the analysis is inconsistent and contains factual errors. For example, you state that sleep time decreased to 7%, whereas the chart indicates it changed from 32% to 25%. Additionally, you mention that 'adults stay in homes' and that this figure 'spiked', but this category is not clearly defined or supported by the provided data. While you attempt to compare the two years, the lack of accuracy in reporting the figures significantly impacts the task achievement. To improve, ensure you carefully transcribe data points and avoid making subjective interpretations about the reasons behind the trends, as the task requires a factual summary.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'In 1958', 'Furthermore', and 'Additionally'. However, the logical flow is occasionally disrupted by inaccurate data reporting and some awkward phrasing. For instance, the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is functional, but the internal logic of the second paragraph is weakened by the misinterpretation of the statistics. To reach a higher band, focus on ensuring that each paragraph has a clear central topic and that cohesive devices are used to link ideas more smoothly rather than just acting as sentence starters.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey the basic meaning. You use some relevant terms like 'daily routine', 'recreational time', and 'negative trend'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'effected' (should be 'affected') and 'spiked' (which is used to describe a trend that is not clearly supported by the data). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. To improve, try to incorporate a wider variety of verbs to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'witnessed a significant decline', and ensure you use the correct form of words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('The given pie charts illustrates'), incorrect verb forms ('sleeping habit effected'), and punctuation/article errors ('in adults life'). While the meaning is generally understandable, these recurring errors prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading your work for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that you use the correct tense when describing past data versus current trends.
