Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response attempts to address the task but suffers from significant inaccuracies in data interpretation. You misidentified the subjects as 'teenagers' and 'adolescents' when the prompt specifies 'working adults'. Furthermore, the data reporting is inconsistent and confusing; for instance, you state that in 1958, time spent working was 33% and sleeping was 32%, but the provided charts show different figures. The overview is also problematic as it contains contradictory information and fails to clearly highlight the main trends, such as the shift in working hours or the decline in sleep. To improve, ensure you accurately transcribe data from the charts and focus on clear, comparative summaries rather than listing individual percentages without context.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical flow is frequently interrupted by unclear phrasing and disjointed sentences. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'Furthermore', their usage is often mechanical or incorrectly placed, which hinders the progression of ideas. The referencing is also confusing; for example, the transition between the 1958 and 2008 data is abrupt, and the lack of clear signposting makes it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, unified focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'ratio of teenagers spent their time' instead of 'proportion of time spent by adults', and 'stuck at 19%' which is an inappropriate collocation for describing statistical data. You also use 'admire to going out' incorrectly. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'percentage' and 'occupied', the overall range is narrow and repetitive. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise terminology for describing trends, such as 'increased by', 'remained stable', or 'accounted for', and ensure your word choices are contextually appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'pie charts depicts'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'percentage was took by'), and awkward sentence structures that make the meaning unclear. You rely mostly on simple sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors, such as 'The similar ratio could be seen in travelling to works as well along with playing sports 7%'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary double periods and fragmented clauses. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be a good starting point for improvement.
