IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The pie charts below show how working adults in a particular country spent their time in 1958 and 2008.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The given pie chart compares about how time is being spent by working adults of a country for the year 1958 and 2008.

As seen in the chart, Adults invest most of their time in working in both the given years.However, on 2008 working time of adults has increased to 42%.Another activity they spend most time on after working is sleeping, duration of sleeping went down from 32% to 25%.And relaxing at home tended to rise by 5% in 2008 which was at 8% in 1958.

Furthermore, time spend in hangouts with family, back in 1958 stand at proportion of 19% but in 2008 it's proportion tends to decline and is at proportion of 6%.In addition, time passed in travelling for work has increased by minor percentage i.e, 5%. Also time consumed by sports activities have remained unchanged at 7%.

To conclude, working hours of adults have increased in 2008, adults in 2008 spend more time relaxing at home than in 1958 but their sleeping hours and hangouts with family/friends decreased by few percentage and their is increase in travelling hours for work
