Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the pie charts and makes relevant comparisons between the two years. However, the response is under the 150-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the task achievement score. While the key trends are identified, the analysis is somewhat brief. To improve, you should expand on the data points by providing more detailed comparisons or by grouping the information more effectively to ensure the response meets the length requirement. The overview is clear, but the overall development of the response is limited by its brevity.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and an overview. The use of cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Similarly', and 'Conversely' helps to guide the reader through the comparisons. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different categories of data. To reach a higher band, ensure that the flow between sentences is even smoother and that you avoid any mechanical repetition of structures. The current structure is functional and easy to follow, which is a strength.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the data, such as 'accounted for', 'plummeted', 'constituted', and 'notable increase'. There are minor spelling errors, such as 'illastruates' (illustrates) and 'activites' (activities), which are minor slips. The vocabulary is generally precise and appropriate for an academic report. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' to avoid repetition and demonstrate a wider range of lexical items.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. The grammar is generally accurate, and errors are rare and do not impede communication. For example, 'working accounted for 33% of the day, which grew to 42% by 2008' is a well-constructed complex sentence. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to include a wider variety of complex grammatical structures, such as passive voice or more sophisticated subordinate clauses, while maintaining the current level of accuracy.
