Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the task by identifying key trends in the pie charts. However, the analysis is inconsistent and contains inaccuracies. For example, the student claims 1958 witnessed a 'significant increase' in working, but the chart shows a static value for that year. Furthermore, the comparison between 1958 and 2008 is hindered by confusing phrasing, such as stating that 2008 saw 'new activities' when the data simply shows different proportions. The overview is present but lacks clarity, and some data points are misinterpreted or poorly described, which limits the overall effectiveness of the summary.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical flow is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. The use of cohesive devices is often repetitive or misused, such as starting sentences with 'In 1958, witnessed...' which lacks a clear subject. The progression of ideas is sometimes difficult to follow because the relationship between the data points and the years is not clearly articulated. While the paragraphing exists, the internal cohesion within paragraphs is weak, making the overall structure feel disjointed.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally limited and often imprecise. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'late adulthood working in the specific state' and 'hit a low point by (25%)'. The student attempts to use some descriptive language like 'substantial change' and 'marked improvement', but these are often applied to data that does not support such descriptions. The repetition of basic verbs and the misuse of terminology related to data reporting (e.g., 'new activities are involved') indicate a need for a wider range of precise, academic vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Many sentences are incomplete or lack a clear subject, such as 'Recorded a sharp decline in elder people...' and 'Travelling work, it rose by (5%)'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of parentheses around percentages. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence construction and verb tense usage significantly impacts the clarity of the report.
