Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the development of the task. While you have identified some main features, the analysis is incomplete. You have not covered all the categories shown in the charts, and the comparison between the two years is underdeveloped. To improve, ensure you describe all data categories and provide a more comprehensive overview of the trends. The inclusion of '20006' is a clear error that affects the accuracy of the data reporting. Because the response is under-length and lacks sufficient detail, it does not fully address the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay has a basic structure with an introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical. The use of cohesive devices is limited, and some transitions feel abrupt. For example, the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs could be smoother. Paragraphing is present, but the content within the paragraphs is not fully developed, which makes the overall flow feel disjointed. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, logical focus that contributes to the overall summary.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on simple descriptors like 'largest proportion' and 'lowest performed activities'. There is also a lack of variety in your reporting verbs and adjectives. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to data trends, such as 'accounted for', 'constituted', 'fluctuated', or 'remained stable'. Additionally, ensure you proofread for errors like '20006', which detracts from the professional tone of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. For instance, the opening sentence 'compare the proportions... that how they spent' is syntactically incorrect. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and awkward phrasing, such as 'presented significant percentage in the past'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors limits the score. Focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring that your complex sentences are grammatically sound before attempting more advanced structures.
