Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the charts, but the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you identify the increase in work and the rise in sports, the comparison between 1958 and 2008 is inconsistent. You mention a decline in sleeping and relaxing, but you do not provide specific data points to support this, which is a requirement for a higher band. Furthermore, the final paragraph includes subjective commentary about people not paying attention to health, which is not supported by the data provided. To improve, ensure you focus strictly on reporting the figures and trends shown in the diagrams without adding personal opinions or external assumptions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by awkward transitions and phrasing. Phrases like 'On the first end' and 'One the second end' are non-standard and do not effectively signal the progression of ideas. While there is an attempt to use cohesive devices, they are often used incorrectly or mechanically. The relationship between sentences is sometimes unclear, making the reader work harder to follow the comparison. To improve, use standard linking words such as 'In contrast,' 'Furthermore,' or 'Conversely' to connect your ideas more naturally and improve the overall structure of your report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic phrasing such as 'people became more busier' and 'life activities.' There are also several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'in larch of earning money' (likely meant 'in search of') and 'co-curricular activities,' which is not the most accurate term for the activities shown in the charts. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'significant increase,' 'dramatic decline,' or 'remained stable,' and ensure that your word choices are precise and appropriate for an academic report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('the working adult have spent,' 'people had became,' 'they does not pay'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or contain errors that make them difficult to parse. For example, 'their is a decline in time spent by sleeping' should be 'there is a decline in the time spent sleeping.' To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions, before attempting more complex structures.
