Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you have identified the main features of the charts, the analysis is incomplete. You mention that the remaining time is distributed among other activities in 2008, but you fail to provide the specific percentages for these categories, leaving the data under-reported. To improve, ensure you cover all data points provided in the diagrams and provide a more thorough comparison between the two years. The summary is currently too brief to fully address the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical. The use of cohesive devices is limited, and the final sentence is incomplete, which disrupts the flow of information. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words and transition phrases to connect your ideas more smoothly. Ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that your concluding summary is fully articulated rather than trailing off. Improving the logical flow between the overview and the detailed body paragraphs will help achieve a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety expected at higher levels. Phrases like 'percentage breakthrough' and 'majorly time spent' are unnatural and inaccurate. You rely on basic verbs such as 'increased' and 'decreased' repeatedly. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to data trends, such as 'witnessed a significant rise' or 'experienced a marginal decline'. Avoid word-choice errors like 'expenditure of working', which is not appropriate in this context. Expanding your range of synonyms will help you describe the data more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains several grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. For instance, 'the majorly time spent' is grammatically incorrect, and there are issues with article usage and prepositional phrases throughout. The sentence structures are relatively simple, and the final sentence is a fragment, which negatively affects the overall accuracy. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Try to incorporate a wider range of complex sentence structures, such as using subordinate clauses to compare data points between 1958 and 2008, while ensuring that your punctuation and grammar remain accurate.
