Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully identified the main trends and provided a clear overview of the data. You covered all categories and made relevant comparisons between 1958 and 2008. However, there are some inaccuracies in your reporting of the data; for example, you stated that working was 33% in 1958, whereas the chart indicates 32%, and you mentioned sleeping was 32% when it was 33%. Accuracy in data transcription is vital for a higher band. Additionally, ensure that your overview highlights the most significant shifts, such as the major increase in working hours and the decline in social activities, rather than just listing changes.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on the specific years. You use cohesive devices such as 'Meanwhile', 'Additionally', and 'Furthermore' to link your ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions could be more sophisticated. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is smoother.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your meaning, using terms like 'depict', 'significant decrease', and 'popular activity'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'quite soar' and 'slight less'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise academic collocations and ensure that your word forms (e.g., using 'soared' as a verb rather than 'soar' as a noun) are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'sleeping anf working' (typo), 'within years' (incorrect preposition), and 'going out with family and friends show' (subject-verb agreement error). Additionally, '13-%' contains a punctuation error. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your report, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy. Focus on proofreading your work to catch these minor errors and ensure subject-verb agreement.
