Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying the key trends in working and sleeping hours. However, the overview is slightly confusing due to awkward phrasing, and the data reporting is inconsistent. For instance, the mention of 'un-named' portions on the chart is unnecessary and inaccurate, as the data should be interpreted as provided. While the main trends are identified, the comparison between 1958 and 2008 could be more precise, particularly regarding the smaller categories. The response addresses the task requirements but lacks the analytical depth required for a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical. Phrases like 'Additionally' and 'In 1958' are used to transition, but the logical flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the progression of ideas within paragraphs could be smoother. The overall arrangement is coherent, but the lack of sophisticated linking words and occasional awkward transitions limits the score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'percentage breakthrough management of time' and 'modification of time investment', which do not sound natural in an academic context. The student relies on basic descriptors and struggles with collocations. While the meaning is generally clear, the limited range of vocabulary and the presence of non-standard phrasing prevent a higher score. More precise terminology related to data description is needed.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempts at complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with article usage, prepositions, and sentence construction (e.g., 'rest of them which elaborated as relaxing'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, and some sentences are fragmented or lack necessary verbs. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable and affect the overall fluency of the writing. Greater attention to basic sentence structure and subject-verb agreement is required.
