Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers the main features of the pie charts and makes relevant comparisons between 1958 and 2008. You successfully identified the key trends, such as the increase in working hours and the decline in sleep. However, the overview is slightly underdeveloped; it could be more precise by highlighting the most significant shifts rather than just mentioning the number of sectors. The data is generally accurate, though some phrasing, such as 'the last two activities number was under 10%', is slightly imprecise. Overall, you have addressed all parts of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on specific years. You use some cohesive devices like 'whereas', 'however', and 'respectively' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by mechanical phrasing, such as 'This two sector represented at 6%'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between sentences could be smoother to improve the overall progression of information. Using a wider variety of linking words would help elevate the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'increment', and 'declined'. There are some instances of awkward word choice or collocation, such as 'time spent on working activity rose' (instead of 'time spent working') and 'drastically hit the lowest'. Additionally, there are minor errors in word form, such as 'remaining areas were shown declined' instead of 'showed a decline'. While these errors do not impede communication, they limit your ability to convey information with greater precision and sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('the charts had several activities which was distributed') and incorrect preposition usage ('reached at 42%', 'accounted at 33%'). There are also errors with articles and plurals, such as 'a travelling to work' and 'This two sector'. While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede the reader's understanding of the data. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions with statistical data.
