Student answer (Band 5.0)
The given two pie charts illustrates how adults working in a particular country spent their time in 1958 and 2008 . Overall we can see that in the year 2008 the ratio of adults going out is decreased and the ratio of people working and relaxing at home is also decreased as well. in 2008 the ratio of people working at home is increased now people usually prefer to do work from home. in 1958 people were more into going out with friends and family. They were more used to stay at home and relax in 1958 people used to spend most of their time with friends and family. The ratio of people travelling to work is greater in the year 2008 than 1958. Now we can say that after comparing both pie charts in 1958 the people used to spend most of their time in working they used to do more hard work

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the task but fails to provide a clear, accurate summary of the data. The description of the trends is often contradictory or unsupported by the provided charts (e.g., claiming working at home increased in 2008 when the charts typically show a decrease in work-related time). Furthermore, the response lacks specific data points or percentages, which are essential for a Task 1 report. The overview is vague, and the information is presented in a disorganized manner, failing to highlight the main features or make meaningful comparisons between the two years. The response reads more like a personal interpretation than a data-driven report.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks paragraphing, which makes it difficult to follow. There is no clear logical progression; the ideas jump between 1958 and 2008 without a structured approach. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, such as the repetitive use of 'in 1958' and 'in 2008' to start sentences. The lack of transition words makes the relationship between the ideas unclear. The overall structure is fragmented, and the absence of a clear introduction or conclusion further hinders the flow of information.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'the ratio of' are used repeatedly, which is inaccurate in this context as 'proportion' or 'percentage' would be more appropriate. There is a lack of variety in descriptive language, and the student relies on basic, informal phrasing such as 'people were more into going out'. There is no attempt to use academic or topic-specific vocabulary related to data analysis, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'accounted for'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The given two pie charts illustrates'), run-on sentences, and poor punctuation. The sentence structures are predominantly simple and repetitive. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the misuse of tenses (e.g., 'is decreased' instead of 'decreased') is consistent throughout the text. These errors are frequent and demonstrate a limited control over basic grammatical structures.
