Student answer (Band 5.0)
The given stats illustrates comparison between adults spending their time on various activities throughout the day, during 1958 and 2008 separately.
In 1958 adults spent most of their time working, due to this they also needed near to equal amount of sleep too. However, in 2008 working time was increased by 9% and shockingly sleeping was reduced by 7% making it nearly a quarter of their time spent.
Apart from work and sleep, another significant usage of time was taken by spending time with family/friends in 1958 by 19% whereas in 2008 that interaction drastically reduced. According to the given stats adults spent their least time travelling to work but comparatively it was increased by more 3xs times of the time taken during 2008. During the past people used to relax at home and spend their time by very little which increased to be nearly more than half the time spent by 2008.
As the time grew from 1958 to 2008 adults started managing their time according getting lesser sleep, working more hours a day, increasing relaxing time at home, leading to less time spending with family/friends.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the task by comparing the two years, but the analysis is inconsistent. While you identify some key trends, such as the increase in working hours and the decrease in social time, the interpretation of the data is occasionally inaccurate or confusing. For example, the claim that 'relaxing at home' increased to 'more than half the time' is not supported by standard interpretations of such data, and the phrasing regarding travel time is unclear. To reach a higher band, ensure that your data reporting is precise and that you provide a clear overview of the most significant changes rather than listing individual points in a way that obscures the overall trend.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or awkward, such as 'due to this they also needed' and 'As the time grew'. The progression of ideas is occasionally disjointed, particularly in the third paragraph where the transition between different activities feels abrupt. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words and phrases to connect sentences and ideas more naturally, ensuring that the relationship between the data points is clearly articulated for the reader.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'stats illustrates' (subject-verb agreement error) and 'more 3xs times'. The use of 'shockingly' is inappropriate for an academic report, which requires a neutral, objective tone. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'increased significantly' or 'experienced a decline', and avoid informal or emotive language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'stats illustrates' (singular/plural mismatch), 'according getting' (missing preposition), and 'less time spending' (incorrect gerund usage). While the meaning is generally understandable, these recurring errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevent the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and consistent verb forms to improve accuracy.
