Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the charts and makes relevant comparisons. However, there are some inaccuracies in the data reporting. For instance, you state that travelling time 'faces a decline from 2% to 7%', which is a contradiction as this is an increase. Additionally, the overview is slightly vague, referring to 'professional persons' and 'throughout the world' when the prompt specifies a 'particular country'. To improve, ensure that data points are accurately transcribed and that the overview clearly highlights the most significant trends, such as the major shift in time spent working versus leisure activities, rather than just listing individual data points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'To begin with', and 'Furthermore'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as the transition 'sleeping stands after the working'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus that contributes to the overall progression of the summary.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'professional persons' instead of 'working adults', and 'decline fraction' instead of 'decreased proportion'. The phrase 'everyone pass their time' is grammatically incorrect and stylistically weak. To improve, try to use more precise collocations related to data description, such as 'a significant increase', 'a marginal rise', or 'remained stable'. Expanding your range of synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' will also help demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('The pie charts illustrates'), incorrect preposition usage ('dedicate most of the time in working'), and tense inconsistencies. The sentence 'sleeping stands after the working with decline fraction of 32% to 25%' is structurally confusing. To improve, focus on basic subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions. Proofreading for these common errors will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
