Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the data, but it fails to accurately report the main features. There are significant inaccuracies in the data interpretation; for example, stating that 'sleeping decreased by 7%' when the data shows a different trend, and misidentifying the groups as 'freshers' or 'youth employees' when the prompt specifies 'working adults'. The overview is also problematic as it makes sweeping generalizations that are not supported by the charts. To improve, you must focus on accurately extracting data points and identifying clear trends (e.g., increases or decreases) without adding external assumptions about the age or status of the individuals.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as 'Where as' (which is incorrectly used as a sentence starter) and 'however'. The referencing is also unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between 1958 and 2008. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks a clear flow, leading to a disjointed reading experience. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would significantly enhance the coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'REMAING', 'SPEENT', 'INTRESTED', and 'INTERSTED'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information with precision. You rely on basic verbs like 'spent' and 'increased' without using more sophisticated alternatives that would better describe statistical changes. To reach a higher band, you should focus on learning collocations related to data description (e.g., 'a significant rise', 'a marginal decline') and ensure that you proofread your work to eliminate basic spelling errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'individuals who are intersted... was increased' and '8% employees are spent time'. The use of articles and prepositions is also inconsistent. While there is an attempt to use complex sentence structures, these are often faulty, leading to confusion. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses, and practicing the use of passive voice, which is essential for describing data in Task 1 reports.
