Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the pie charts and makes relevant comparisons between 1958 and 2008. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For instance, the description of the data is often repetitive and lacks a clear, analytical overview of the trends. While the key changes (such as the increase in work and the decrease in social time) are identified, the report would benefit from a more precise synthesis of the data rather than simply listing percentages. The inclusion of 'sports' in 2008 is a good observation, but the overall structure of the summary could be more professional and concise to better highlight the significant shifts in time allocation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or missing. Transitions between sentences are frequently abrupt, such as 'after that, 19% contributed for love to spending quality time'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the logical flow between the two time periods could be improved by using more sophisticated linking words (e.g., 'in contrast', 'conversely', 'meanwhile'). The paragraphing is present, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs is inconsistent, making the text feel somewhat disjointed.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher bands. There is a reliance on basic phrasing, such as 'people were serious for career' and 'people like to spent time'. Some word choices are unnatural or inaccurate, such as 'contributed for love to spending' and 'people were more active in sports about 7% like to playing sports'. To improve, you should focus on using more academic collocations and precise terminology related to data description, such as 'accounted for', 'witnessed a decline', or 'represented a significant portion'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'most of adults were spending'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'people like to spent time'), and missing articles or prepositions. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several run-on sentences and missing capital letters at the start of sentences. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence construction prevents the writing from reaching a higher band score. Focus on mastering basic sentence structure before attempting more complex forms.
