Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to address the task but fails to provide a clear, accurate summary of the data. The report is repetitive, as the student essentially writes the same content twice. Furthermore, the analysis is flawed; for instance, the claim that adults in 2008 were 'facing work pressure' is an interpretation not supported by the data provided in the charts. The overview is weak and lacks a clear comparison of the main trends. Key features, such as the significant shift in work hours and sleep, are mentioned but lack precise reporting and logical synthesis. To improve, focus on identifying the most significant changes and grouping data logically rather than listing percentages in isolation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay lacks a logical structure. The most significant issue is the repetition of the entire response, which indicates a lack of planning and control. Paragraphing is present but ineffective because the second half of the essay simply restates the first half with minor variations. Cohesive devices are used in a very mechanical and often incorrect way, such as the misuse of 'Although' at the start of a sentence. The progression of ideas is hindered by this repetition, making the text difficult to follow. To improve, ensure each paragraph introduces new information and use linking words to connect ideas rather than just listing facts.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There is frequent misuse of word forms, such as 'the worked' instead of 'work' and 'the sleeping' instead of 'sleep'. Phrases like 'facing the work pressure more' are awkward and unnatural. The student relies on basic, repetitive language to describe the data, failing to use a range of vocabulary suitable for a report (e.g., 'increased', 'decreased', 'remained stable'). Spelling errors are also frequent, such as 'comparsions' and 'perefer'. To improve, focus on learning collocations related to data description and ensuring the correct part of speech is used in sentences.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical control is weak, with frequent errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'adults facing the work pressure' (missing auxiliary verb) and 'they do not going anywhere'. Sentence structures are simple and often fragmented. Punctuation is also problematic, with misplaced commas and periods. The lack of control over basic tenses and sentence construction makes the text difficult to read. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures, specifically the use of auxiliary verbs and correct verb forms, before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
