Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the task by identifying main features and making comparisons. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you mention the dominant category (work) and the least significant ones, the report lacks a clear, structured overview of the trends. Some data points are presented in a list-like fashion rather than being synthesized into a coherent comparison. For instance, the mention of 'travel for work' is repeated, and the connection between the categories could be more analytical. To improve, ensure you group related data points logically and provide a more comprehensive summary of the overall shifts between 1958 and 2008.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal structure is weak. The progression of ideas is often disjointed, with sentences appearing as isolated facts rather than a cohesive report. Cohesive devices are limited and sometimes used incorrectly, such as the abrupt transition in the final paragraph. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the lack of linking words makes the flow of information feel mechanical. To improve, use a wider variety of cohesive devices (e.g., 'whereas', 'in contrast', 'subsequently') to connect your sentences and ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate to convey the basic meaning, but it is quite repetitive and contains several errors in word choice and spelling (e.g., 'proportation', 'tavle', 'conparong', 'concluduion'). You rely on basic verbs like 'showed' and 'declined'. While you attempt some descriptive language like 'leaped', the overall range is limited. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise terminology for describing trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a significant increase', and ensure you proofread for spelling accuracy, as these errors occasionally distract the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There is a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You struggle with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The figure illustrate', 'working and sleeping was equal') and tense consistency. There are also frequent punctuation errors and missing articles. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of grammatical slips hinders the fluency of the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensure that your sentences are punctuated correctly. Practicing the use of complex sentences with subordinate clauses will also help improve your range.
