Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the pie charts and makes relevant comparisons between 1958 and 2008. However, there are inaccuracies in the data reporting. For instance, you state that work accounted for 33% in 1958, whereas the chart indicates 33% for 'sleeping' and 8% for 'work'. Additionally, the description of the 2008 data is somewhat confusing, particularly the claim that work increased by 9% from 1958. While you identify the key trends, the lack of precision in data interpretation prevents a higher score. Ensure you double-check the figures against the visual data to avoid misrepresenting the information.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'At first' and 'At second', which are not standard ways to introduce points in a report. The transition between ideas is sometimes abrupt, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when discussing the changes between the two years. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words would significantly enhance the flow of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is repetitive and lacks precision. You rely on basic phrasing like 'give their time' and 'doing work'. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'comparision', 'comapared', 'workpalace', and 'adutls', which distract the reader. To improve, you should aim to use more varied and precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'accounted for', 'constituted', or 'a significant shift', and ensure you proofread for basic spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('The given pie charts shows'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward phrasing ('Has time passed with generation changes'). Some sentences are difficult to parse due to these errors, although the overall meaning remains understandable. Focusing on basic sentence construction and ensuring consistent verb tenses will help improve clarity and accuracy.
