Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to accurately interpret the data. You have misidentified the subject of the charts as 'young people' and '18-25 age group', whereas the prompt specifies 'working adults'. Furthermore, the inclusion of subjective commentary, such as describing time spent working as 'precious' or sleeping as 'wasting time', is inappropriate for an academic report. While you have attempted to report on the main features and trends, the misinterpretation of the data source significantly impacts the accuracy of the summary. To improve, focus strictly on the objective data provided in the diagrams and avoid adding personal opinions or external information not present in the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression is hindered by the inaccurate interpretation of the data. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Initially', 'on the other hand', and 'likewise', but they are sometimes used mechanically or inappropriately given the context of the data. For instance, the transition 'on the other hand' is used to introduce a decrease, but the connection between the ideas lacks clarity. The referencing is also problematic because the subject of the report is incorrectly identified, making the flow of information confusing for the reader.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary range is limited and contains several errors in word choice and spelling. Examples include 'porportion' (proportion), 'adabted' (adopted), and 'slepping' (sleeping). The use of informal language like 'hanging out' and 'waste there time' is not suitable for an Academic Task 1 report, which requires a formal, neutral tone. You should focus on using precise terminology related to data description, such as 'increased', 'decreased', 'proportion', and 'significant', while avoiding colloquialisms and spelling errors that distract from the clarity of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There is a limited range of grammatical structures, and the response contains frequent errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'The Pie chart illustrates the porportion of young people use their working time' (missing relative pronoun/incorrect structure) and 'Age group from 18 - 25 spend thier precious time' (missing article/subject-verb agreement). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with spaces before commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles. Attempting more complex structures before ensuring accuracy in simple sentences often leads to the errors seen here.
